Marine litter is a major problem. The research shows that the North Sea is becoming cleaner, but the problem is far from being solved. Everything you use in daily life can be found on the beach.

This year, it was the 9th edition of the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour organized by North Sea Foundation. From 1 to 15 August, 1,567 volunteers cleared the entire Dutch North Sea coast in thirty stages. The volunteers cleared 4,408 kilograms of waste from the beaches in 15 days.

On 15 August, they also picked up 86,954 cigarette butts, more than 30,000 from approximately 9 kilometers on the Zandvoort beach.

The North Sea Foundation is the only independent nature and environmental organization that focuses specifically on the North Sea.
