The Noorderkerk where frequently visited by both Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt van Rijn in the center of Amsterdam, has been converted into an exhibition space in which the visitor is told the story of the two most famous Dutch painters on the basis of Vincent’s letters.

Vincent’s admiration for Rembrandt is apparent from the many letters to his brother Theo. What few people know is that he also regularly used Rembrandt as an example for his own work. Examples include: the biblical work The Raising of Lazarus and the spectacular portrait of the Archangel Gabriel.
